

UK Network's Performance
A survey enabling consumers to compare the regional performance of mobile phone networks has been published by Ofcom. The full results and details of the survey can be found at Ofcom's website. The operators carry out their own drive round surveys making test calls on the basis of a common survey specification. The survey methodology used and the results have been independently audited.
Ofcom is the independent regulator and competition authority for the UK communications industries, with responsibilities across television, radio, telecommunications and wireless communications services.
Vodafone: Company History
Vodafone made the first UK mobile call on 1st January, 1985. In their first 15 years, Vodafone have become the largest company in Europe by market capitalisation and the largest telecommunications company of its kind globally. They have a customer base of over 95 million and interests in network operators across 28 countries.
O2: Company History
O2 (Cellnet) launched in January 1985, in the first year 25,000 customers joined the Cellnet network. For the first time in 1988, Cellnet connected 100,00 customers in a year. In 1992 Cellnet launched the UK market's first consumer tariff package. In 1994 Cellnet achieved one million customers. Cellnet launched GSM Digital service and launched the UK's first mobile two-way digital fax and data service.
T-Mobile: Company History
T-Mobile (One2One) was launched on 7th September 1993 - the UK's first fully digital mobile communications network. Today over 9 million people use the One 2 One network. The network covers over 99% of the UK population and handles around 260 million calls a week. T-Mobile (UK) is part of T-Mobile International, the wireless division of Deutsche Telekom, the fourth largest telecommunications company worldwide. The company changed it's name from On2One to T-Mobile on 18 April 2002.
Orange: Company History
Orange launched in April 1994 into the UK mobile communications market with a simple vision. A vision for a brighter future, where people can communicate wherever, whenever and however they wish. Orange has over 12 million customers in the UK and over 30 million customers worldwide. The company has interests in 20 countries worldwide, including 13 countries in Europe.
Three (3): Company History
3 (Hutchison 3G), a mobile multimedia company which aims to make communication simpler, faster and more enjoyable. It is co-owned by Hutchison Whampoa, KPN Mobile from the Netherlands and NTT DoCoMo, Japan's largest mobile phone company. Hutchinson 3G, one of five companies awarded licences by the UK Government in May 2000 to run 3rd generation mobile phone services. The company is focused solely on 3G services.
